This will work for a LS or Coil Spring trap. Here is some pics of a L.S. I removed both jaws on this trap but I usually will just cut one jaw at a time without removing the jaws(if its a coil spring take the springs off).
You need to cut the jaws on the legs right before the bend.
I take a piece of 1"x 1/4" flat bar and cut it the same width as the jaw(if you use 1" flat bar you know that all the pieces will be the same size). Bevel the edges on the piece of flat bar and the pieces of the jaw. You need to get the jaws were you can be sure everything is square. I take a pair of vice tongs and clamp the piece of flat bar to my table and use a square to make sure everything is square. Once you have welded everything needs to be ground down smooth were the springs will come all the way up(on C.S. were the levers will come all the way up)
After I have done both jaws I check to make sure that both jaws are the same, you may need to tweak them.
Then I cut the cross frame were the dog and pan attaches, Another piece of 1" angle is used here also. bevel all pieces and make sure everything is square and flat. Once I have welded the 1" piece in I take a grinder and clean everything up, and baseplate the cross frame with a piece of 1"x1/4" flat bar, about 3"s long, If you are using a PIT pan on plan on using one you do not want to baseplate to interfere with the pan,(this may not be necessary but I feel it helps.
On the DOG I have bought dogs that are 1" longer I have made some from round rod and also Have added 1" to them. Here is the finished product.
(On a #5 Coil Spring you need to add extensions to the Levers, if not it will be hard to set, I just take a piece of 1/4" rod and be the to fit on the outside of the levers let them stick up about 3/4" above the levers and bend them down at about a 80 degree angle)
