To collect skunk essence. I insert a 16ga.x1" needle (available at TSC) into the two sacks that contain the essence on either side of the vent then simply draw the syringe to suck the essence out. You can remove the sacks of essence and probably get more essence that way but this way is good enough for me,(and much cleaner) as I'm only trying to get enough to add to some of my baits, not collecting to sell. I squirt the essence into a clean glass bottle and store it in a 5 gal bucket of dry dirt in shady cool location.... *NOTE: Be sure to see that possession of the syringes is legal in your state, some are not. ~ADC~

Very good ADC. I go one step further, and take out the scent sack, I use a scalpel and make a cut along a line from the heal of the rear foot to the base of the tale, being careful to not cut into meat. Then proceed to skin toward the belly. As you come to the scent bag, keep the blade angled toward the skin and not toward the scent bag. If you grab the scent sack carefully you can tug gently on it as you skin it away from the pelt and the body. You will have to cut through the anal cord and it should then come free. You can now extract all of the essence for use or sale. Save the scent bags for use and sale/trade. The skunk is now ready to skin with no chance of being sprayed. Also I wear latex gloves while handling the skunk during all phases of scent bag removal and skinning the animal. Tom

Do you put any preservative in it? If so what ratio? Can you keep it till you have enough to do/have what you need? Thanks in advance.

I add nothing to it. It lasts just fine.
