Howdy here is a post by "AceTrapper" from the trapperman.com site, that said I could use his post. So here goes... Tom
OK, I know this has been discussed numerous times but I have had NUMEROUS PMs about how I make my Wax Dirt...Mades some today and this is how I make it, not sayiong it's right or wrong, just how I do it.
Loaded up and headed to my brother place as it is easier on him.
Cement mixer set up with weed torch in place to heat the outside of the metal drum with dry sifted dirt inside.
My brother measuring the flake wax...1/3 of a 10lb bag per 5 gallons of bone dry sifted dirt.
Adding the flake wax a few hand fulls at a time. Don't just dump the flake wax in as it seems to clump.
After about 5 minutes of tumbling with heat applied and wax added the mixture within the mixer should take on a "wet" look and is then dumped into a wheel barrow to cool.
BTW, I buy my Flake Wax from MTP!
After cooling I fill 5 gallon buckets and eventually snap lids on them to keep them from absorbing odors until use. Notice the change in color due to the wax, light colored dirt has not been waxed yet.
Oh and I almost forgot, we had a little helper (Tightchain) LOL NOT This is my brother's little girl Dana, she tags along on his line like a little shadow.
Hope you enjoy the pics and this helps clarify things for those who asked.
Todd
It should also be noted that Mark June, recommends NOT storing in plastic buckets as it will mildew...he says to use paper or cardboard, even wood boxes so the waxed dirt can breath and vent...Tom
